A return visit to a Maidstone garden project completed earlier this year, now beautifully established and thriving. The transformation combined contemporary design elements with natural materials to create a stylish, layered outdoor space that feels both calm and full of life.
A garden revisited
Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of helping to bring this striking garden design to life in Maidstone. Returning recently to see how it has matured was incredibly rewarding – the planting has filled out, the textures are blending perfectly, and the materials are settling into their natural tones.
The garden now feels balanced, lush, and inviting – a true reflection of the design intent and the care taken during installation.
Key features and details
- Corten steel accents: Decorative laser-cut screens and planters add rich, rustic warmth and complement the surrounding brickwork beautifully. Over time, the natural patina continues to evolve, adding further character to the space.
- Timber pergola structures: The pergola frames define pathways and seating areas, offering architectural interest and subtle shade — perfect for relaxation and outdoor dining.
- Lush layered planting: A carefully curated mix of ferns, hostas, hydrangeas, and ornamental grasses creates texture and movement throughout the borders. Mature specimen trees and shrubs, including a striking olive tree, anchor the space and add an instant sense of maturity.
- Water feature: A shallow corten steel bowl provides a tranquil focal point, reflecting the light and encouraging wildlife into the garden.
- Hard landscaping: Brick, gravel, and stone surfaces have been combined to create a seamless flow between zones while maintaining natural drainage and low maintenance needs.
