Daffodil Bank Transformation in Barming
This project in 20 seconds
In Summer 2024, our team cleared a steep bank in Barming that had become overrun with brambles and scrub. In its place, we created a naturalised wildflower bank, planting over 7,000 native daffodil bulbs to bring seasonal colour and biodiversity back to the landscape.
The challenge
The slope had been neglected for years, with dense growth of brambles, hawthorn, and scrub crowding out light and suppressing native species. Our goal was to restore balance – creating a space that would not only look beautiful in spring but also provide long-term ecological value for pollinators and wildlife.
Our solution
We began by carefully clearing the area, removing invasive growth while preserving the underlying soil structure. Once prepared, we planted thousands of native wild daffodil bulbs (Narcissus pseudonarcissus), along with a mix of complementary varieties to add natural variation and rhythm across the slope.
The bulbs were planted in large, naturalistic clusters, following the contours of the land to mimic how they would appear in the wild. This approach ensures that as the plants mature, they’ll form soft, organic drifts of colour that move with the landscape.
The result
The first spring display has already been a rewarding sight – a carpet of delicate yellow blooms shining beneath mature trees, alive with early pollinators. As the bulbs establish and multiply, the effect will only grow stronger year after year.
What was once an overgrown bank is now a thriving natural feature that will bring joy and life to the area for generations. A small mark left on the landscape – and one we’re genuinely proud of.

Maintenance involves minimal intervention; we allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering, remove invasive weeds manually, and occasionally top up bulbs or wildflower seeds to encourage diversity.
