This project in 20 seconds
This Maidstone garden was transformed into a sleek, modern space defined by sweeping curves, raised rendered planters, and a mix of porcelain paving, dark edging, and decorative stone. The design maximises every inch of the space while keeping it low-maintenance, stylish, and perfect for outdoor living.
From ordinary to outstanding
The original garden was uninspiring, with little character and awkward corners. Our client wanted something striking that worked as a space to relax and entertain, but also offered structure, colour, and interest throughout the year.
The challenge was to create a design that felt spacious and flowing, while softening the boundaries of a modest-sized plot.
The brief
After walking the garden with the client, we established the key goals:
- Introduce curved design lines to make the garden feel larger and more dynamic.
- Create raised planting areas for structure, depth, and easy maintenance.
- Use modern, high-quality paving materials to keep the finish bright and contemporary.
- Incorporate decorative stone for contrast and texture.
- Deliver a layout that balanced hard landscaping with lush planting.
The build and materials
The transformation began with careful ground preparation before introducing a sweeping new layout:
- Porcelain paving: Large pale porcelain slabs were laid to form the main pathways and seating areas, providing a crisp, modern finish that reflects light and brightens the whole garden.
- Curved edging: To define the paths and planting beds, we installed contrasting dark stone edging, which highlighted the flowing lines of the design.
- Raised planters: Bespoke rendered planters were built in curved shapes to mirror the pathways. These were capped with smooth dark stone, giving a refined contrast against the light paving.
- Decorative cobbles: Selected areas were filled with rounded cobbles, introducing texture and helping with drainage around the planting pockets.
- Planting scheme: A mix of architectural plants, including evergreens, grasses, and seasonal shrubs, were added to bring depth and movement, softening the hard edges while adding year-round interest.
The finished result
The completed garden is a stunning example of how design and materials can completely transform an outdoor space.
- The sweeping curves draw the eye through the garden, making it feel larger than it is.
- The contrasting porcelain and dark stone create a smart, modern aesthetic.
- The raised planters add height and structure, doubling as seating in some areas while making planting more accessible.
- The decorative cobbles and planting bring texture, colour, and softness.
For the client, the garden is now a true extension of their home – a contemporary space for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying throughout the seasons.
