Set in the picturesque Weald of Kent, this Oast House renovation required a garden that complemented its historic character while introducing modern functionality and style. The client wanted an elegant, low-maintenance outdoor space, making use of high-quality materials that seamlessly connected the indoors with the landscape beyond.
Timeless Stone for a Historic Property
To maintain visual continuity in this garden redesign, we installed high-quality porcelain paving that extends from the kitchen diner to the outdoor terrace. The tiles were carefully selected to match the interior flooring, creating a harmonious flow through the bi-fold doors, allowing uninterrupted views of the garden and countryside.
A Stylish & Durable Boardwalk
A composite decking boardwalk was installed using Millboard, a premium material chosen for its realistic timber look, slip resistance, and low-maintenance properties. This feature enhances walkability around the pond while blending naturally with the garden’s textures and tones.
Enhancing an Existing Water Feature
Rather than replacing the pond, we worked to restore and enhance its natural beauty. A combination of aquatic planting, stone edging, and water filtration improvements helped transform it into a striking centrepiece for the garden. A unique cantilevered deck extends over the pond, creating a tranquil seating area with uninterrupted views. This contemporary feature provides a floating effect, offering a perfect spot for relaxation and reflection, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding water and planting scheme.
Framing the Landscape
To soften the hard landscaping elements, we redefined the lawn and planting borders, using a mix of low-maintenance shrubs, ornamental grasses, and structured evergreens. This keeps the space lush and inviting year-round, with a planting scheme that complements the Oast House’s rustic charm.
