This project in 20 seconds
Attention to detail makes all the difference. This turfing project in Bearsted showcases the care, precision and pride that define every Cowen Landscapes installation – from soil preparation to the final roller stripe finish.
The project
This garden in Bearsted required a complete lawn replacement to complement wider landscaping works taking place around the property. Rather than rushing the job, our team followed each stage of installation to the letter, ensuring the new turf would establish perfectly and provide a flawless finish.
We began by preparing and levelling the ground, removing debris and creating a smooth, even surface. The soil was then graded, enriched and consolidated to provide the ideal base for the turf to root into. Once the ground was ready, our team carefully laid the turf rolls in a precise pattern, ensuring each joint was tightly butted up against the next — no gaps, no overlaps.
To finish, the turf was rolled and striped, not just for appearance but to help the roots make firm contact with the soil below. It’s these finer details that make the difference between an average job and a Cowen Landscapes lawn.
The result
The end result is a textbook installation – perfectly level, immaculately striped, and ready to thrive. Every piece of turf has knitted together seamlessly, creating a lush, healthy lawn that instantly lifts the whole garden.
At Cowen Landscapes, we don’t just lay turf. We create lawns designed to look great, perform well and last. This project is a great example of how a methodical approach and pride in workmanship deliver truly professional results.

Laying a new lawn typically takes one day for preparation and installation, but the turf needs around 2–3 weeks to establish before it can handle regular use.
-
A newly turfed lawn should be kept moist, especially during dry spells. Avoid mowing until the turf has rooted; then mow lightly and gradually reduce the cutting height over time.
-
We used Rolawn Medallion Turf, a premium blend of fine fescue and ryegrass cultivars that offers a fine-leafed appearance, hard-wearing durability, slow growth and drought tolerance.
-
Yes. Incorporating sandstone paving slabs or stepping stones provides a stylish walkway across the lawn and helps protect the grass in high-traffic areas.
-
You should wait until the turf has rooted, usually around 2–3 weeks after installation, and then mow lightly with a sharp blade, never removing more than one-third of the grass height in a single cut.
-
Regular watering, feeding with a balanced lawn fertiliser and occasional aeration will keep your new turf healthy and vibrant.
