This project in 20 seconds
A recently completed transformation for a lovely couple in Maidstone, this garden perfectly blends modern design with natural character. Centred around a soothing water feature and wildlife-friendly planting, it offers inviting spaces for outdoor dining, quiet relaxation beneath a pergola, and a lush lawn framed by rich textures and clean architectural lines.
A complete garden transformation
This Maidstone project was designed to deliver a contemporary outdoor retreat that’s both visually stunning and beautifully functional. The existing garden was tired and underused, so our goal was to craft a layout that offered multiple inviting zones while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic.
From the elegant porcelain paving to the bespoke water feature, every element was chosen to balance texture, tone, and movement. This created a timeless outdoor living space that will be enjoyed year-round.
Key features and materials
Water feature: A bespoke multi-tiered feature built from porcelain-clad units forms the tranquil heart of the garden. Water gently cascades from an upper trough into a lower pond, bringing a relaxing soundscape and attracting local wildlife.
Pergola retreat: A series of sleek, black steel frames form a structured walkway that transitions into a sheltered pergola area – the perfect spot to unwind beneath dappled shade.
Porcelain paving and pavers: High-quality porcelain tiles were laid across the main terrace, offering a durable, low-maintenance surface with a refined finish. Textured clay pavers in a herringbone pattern beneath the dining area add contrast and warmth.
Composite cladding: The boundary fencing and privacy screens were finished in contemporary black composite cladding, providing a sharp, modern backdrop that enhances the planting and complements the red brickwork of the property.
Planting and lawn: Pollinator-friendly planting brings life and colour throughout the seasons, while a fresh, vibrant lawn links each space and adds softness to the structured design.
The finished result
The completed garden feels cohesive, calm, and deeply personal. Each element, from the water’s movement to the materials’ textures, works together to create a space that feels both relaxing and refined.
Whether dining with friends, relaxing under the pergola, or simply listening to the soft trickle of the water feature, this garden now offers a true escape right outside the back door.
