This project in 20 seconds
A full garden refresh for these homeowners in Lenham, transforming a tired, uneven surface into a clean, practical garden. Combining crisp new sandstone paving, a freshly laid lawn, and neat planted borders to create a modern, usable space. The garden now looks effortlessly cohesive and contemporary, with a high-quality finish that will last for years to come.
Ground preparation and paving installation
We started by removing the existing materials and preparing the site with a solid sub-base. The ground was levelled, compacted, and shaped to establish the correct falls for drainage.
Next, we installed new Indian sandstone paving — laid with precision on a full mortar bed. The light tones of the stone give the space a bright, fresh feel, while the pattern layout ensures a professional, balanced finish.
Creating the lawn and borders
Once the paving was complete, we turned our attention to the lawn area. The soil was graded, fertilised and levelled before premium turf was carefully laid in a striped formation – ensuring tight joins, no gaps, and a smooth surface throughout.
To soften the look and bring colour through the seasons, we added a selection of flowering shrubs to the borders, chosen for long-term structure and interest.
The refreshed garden
The finished garden is clean, structured and ready to enjoy – the perfect mix of hard and soft landscaping. Once the client paints the fencing and outbuilding a dark grey, it will tie everything together beautifully, setting off the pale sandstone paving and vibrant new lawn.
Another project that shows how attention to detail and quality materials can completely transform a space.

The homeowners wanted to refresh an uneven, tired garden and create a clean, practical outdoor space. We combined crisp Indian sandstone paving with a newly laid lawn and neat planted borders to achieve a modern, cohesive garden that’s easy to maintain.
-
First, we removed existing materials and installed a stable sub-base. We levelled and compacted the ground to ensure proper drainage. Then we laid the sandstone paving on a full mortar bed, followed by premium turf laid in neat stripes. Finally, borders were planted with shrubs for year‑round interest.
-
Timeframes vary depending on garden size and weather, but a typical project like this takes around 5‑7 working days from preparation to completion. This includes removing old surfaces, laying the sub‑base, installing paving and turf, and finishing touches such as planting.
-
For the first couple of weeks, water the turf regularly and avoid walking on it until roots establish. Thereafter, mow when it reaches around 5 cm and water during dry spells.
Sweep or hose down sandstone paving occasionally to remove debris, and use a mild detergent for stubborn marks.
-
Yes. Indian sandstone is a hard‑wearing natural stone that withstands UK weather well, and premium turf creates a resilient lawn when correctly laid and cared for. A properly prepared sub-base and good drainage help both elements last for many years.
-
We compacted and graded the sub-base to create the correct falls for water run-off. The paving was laid on a full mortar bed and joints filled to prevent water ingress. The lawn area was levelled and topped with quality soil to aid drainage.

It’s best to keep off a newly laid lawn for at least two weeks to allow the turf to root. After that, light foot traffic is fine, but avoid heavy use for the first month. Regular watering during this period will help the turf establish quickly.
