The challenge
Our mission, if we chose to accept it, was a new seating area that felt private, comfortable, and in keeping with the character of our clients traditional property.
The chosen location was a gently sloping bank, which was ideal for creating a recessed space, but one that required careful shaping and construction to ensure stability, access, and drainage.
The Cowen Landscapes Solution
Our team excavated the area to form a level base, carefully retaining the natural contours of the garden to ensure the patio would sit harmoniously within its surroundings.
We then constructed a circular sunken patio using natural sandstone paving, edged with traditional brickwork to define the shape and provide a timeless finish. A short flight of matching stone steps connects the main lawn to the seating area, creating a smooth and practical transition between levels.
The raised brick wall subtly encloses the space, providing both shelter and structure, an ideal backdrop for a fire pit or outdoor furniture.
