Garden Veranda and Millboard Decking in Boughton Monchelsea
A sheltered outdoor living space in Boughton Monchelsea, combining Millboard decking with an aluminium glazed veranda to create a bright, practical area for relaxing, dining and enjoying the garden year-round.
This project in 20 seconds
The clients wanted to make better use of the area directly outside their home and create somewhere that felt connected to the garden without being completely exposed to the weather.
We installed Millboard composite decking and an aluminium veranda with glazed sides, creating a bright, sheltered space for sitting, dining and entertaining.
The completed area has transformed the way the clients use the transition between indoors and outdoors, giving their relatively compact home an additional living space without the feel of a traditional conservatory or extension.
Creating a genuine indoor-outdoor living space
The biggest change here is not simply the addition of a covered structure.
The photographs show how naturally the new veranda sits against the rear of the house, directly outside the existing doors and windows. Rather than feeling like a separate feature positioned somewhere in the garden, it has become an extension of the way the ground floor is used.
There is room for a comfortable lounge area as well as a separate table and chairs, allowing the space to work for both relaxing and dining.
That was particularly important for the clients, who felt the finished project had significantly improved their indoor-outdoor living and made their home feel more spacious.
An aluminium veranda with full-height glazing
The dark aluminium frame gives the structure a clean, contemporary appearance and works particularly well alongside the property’s existing dark-framed doors and windows.
Full-height glazed panels enclose much of the veranda while still preserving views into the garden. This means the clients can enjoy the planting and greenery around them without losing the sense of being outdoors.
The translucent roof also allows plenty of natural light into the space while providing shelter overhead.
From inside the veranda, the result feels open and bright rather than enclosed, with the garden remaining a major part of the view from almost every angle.
Millboard decking throughout the seating area
We installed Millboard composite decking across the floor of the veranda.
The decking creates a consistent surface from one end of the structure to the other and provides a practical base for both the lounge furniture and dining area.
Visually, the muted timber-effect boards also soften the aluminium and glass, helping the new structure sit more naturally within the garden setting.
The photographs show how the decking runs right up to the house and underneath the full covered area, making the whole installation feel like one coordinated space rather than a collection of separate elements.
A space for dining, relaxing and enjoying the garden
The finished veranda now performs several roles.
There is a relaxed seating area with sofas and a coffee table, while another part of the deck provides space for dining. The glazed enclosure and roof mean those areas are less dependent on perfect weather than a conventional open patio or deck.
The result is a sheltered outdoor room that still feels unmistakably connected to the garden.
For the clients, that has made a real difference to how much usable space they feel they have at home.

A garden veranda is generally a lighter outdoor structure designed to provide shelter while retaining a strong connection with the garden. On this project, the aluminium frame, glazed sides and covered roof create protection from the weather without making the space feel like a conventional indoor room.
It can. By creating a usable area directly outside the main living space, a veranda can extend the way a home is used without requiring a traditional extension. The clients on this project felt it had significantly improved their indoor-outdoor living.
Millboard provides a durable, timber-effect surface that works well in covered outdoor areas. Here, it creates a consistent floor throughout the veranda and helps visually connect the structure with the surrounding garden.
Yes. Full-height glazing can provide shelter while retaining views of the garden. In this project, the planting remains highly visible through the glass, so the space feels protected without becoming visually cut off from its surroundings.
Yes. If the available space allows, a covered veranda can accommodate several different uses. This project includes both a relaxed lounge area and a separate dining space beneath the same structure.
